Hybrid Course

Course Description:
This robust hybrid course includes one online presentation along with hands-on practice, focusing on teaching the necessary skills for proficient fingerstick blood glucose testing. Beyond learning about the mechanics of performing a fingerstick, the learner will also gain an understanding of the meaning of the test and how it relates to diabetes.

Who should take the course? certified nurse aides (CNA), patient care technicians (PCT), certified medication assistants (CMA), licensed health aides (LHA), health assistants, medical assistants, nurses, pre-nursing students, direct care workers, caregivers, care providers, and anyone eager to master this skill.

Course Structure: Hybrid:

  • One online presentation, approximately 2 hours to complete
  • 40-question final exam, approximately 45 minutes to complete
  • Demonstration of two fingersticks, which may be performed on a human or mannequin
  • The skill evaluator grades the learner via an online link in under 5 minutes
  • 5 Continuing Education (CE) Credits upon course completion; certificate provided

Fingerstick Demonstration: The learner completes two fingerstick practices under the observation of an RN, NP (nurse practitioner), LPN/LVN, PA, MD, pharmacist, or LDN (licensed dietitian/nutritionist). Mannequins may be used for both fingerstick practices.

Course Options and Pricing:

  • Individual ($50): The learner manages their own learning and arranges the fingerstick demonstrations with a licensed medical professional.
  • Institution Sponsored ($10 per learner code): Access the course via an educational institution, employer, or other organization. The institution arranges the fingerstick demonstrations with a licensed medical professional.
