🎅 Season's Greetings! 🎁

This issue highlights several exciting insights gathered during my presentation at the Credentia Conference in Orlando, Florida last month. A heartfelt thank-you to Credentia for the opportunity to speak, share ideas with such a dynamic group, and connect with so many who are driving meaningful change in nurse assistant education and certification. I’m looking forward to next year’s conference!

As 2025 comes to a close and we prepare for 2026, thank you for trusting us with the training of your students. Your support drives our mission forward every day!✨

OBRA 1987 - Update!

This is a brief update on the growing movement to detach OBRA 1987 from nurse assistant education and certification. Several states are now collaborating to advance long-overdue reform. We will continue to share updates as they emerge. In the meantime, please share this newsletter with interested colleagues and stakeholders, or invite them to subscribe here for ongoing updates.

To learn more about OBRA 1987 and nurse assistant training and certification, review the Electronic Code of Federal Regulations, Title 42—click here.

A CNA Licensure Compact?

Credentia is exploring an initiative to develop a CNA licensure compact model - similar to the current nurse licensure compact (NLC). Key potential CNA benefits include:

  • Real-time certification verification
    • A single authoritative database would allow employers and state agencies to verify certification status quickly and accurately.
  • Streamline state-to-state mobility
    • Makes transferring certification between compact states faster and reduces administrative burden for both CNAs and regulating bodies.
  • Centralized tracking of conduct and discipline
    • Prevents individuals with misconduct from avoiding accountability by moving to another state.
  • Expanded employment and earning potential
    • CNAs gain access to broader job options and higher-paying opportunities across multiple markets.
  • Greater professional flexibility and job security
    • More choices and broader opportunities enhance career stability.

According to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (2025), "The NLC is celebrating 25 years of multistate mobility and greater access to care. Implemented in 2000, the NLC has successfully reduced regulatory barriers to cross-border nursing practice."  We wish the same for CNAs!📈

We will share more updates as this initiative unfolds.
