Greetings, fellow nurse assistant educators, CNAs, and stakeholders! A brief update on our initiative.
I’m excited to share progress on our ongoing initiative to detach OBRA 1987 from nurse assistant training and certification.
This week marks an important milestone: the Council for Nurse Assistant Education (CNAE) is holding its first official committee meeting to strategize on the next steps. If you’re interested in contributing your expertise, we welcome your voice - please email me at v.castillo@facetshc.com.
If you haven’t already, I encourage you to subscribe to our CNAE Newsletter to stay informed.
In other exciting news, after much persistent outreach, I’ve secured a meeting in Washington, D.C., with my U.S. Representative, Eli Crane, on June 24, 2025, to advocate for legislative support in decoupling OBRA 1987 from nurse assistant training and certification.
This is just the beginning. I’m actively reaching out to key national leaders, including Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr., his team, members of Congress, and President Trump as well, to raise awareness and build momentum. While in Washington, D.C., I aim to meet with additional federal policymakers to broaden support for this urgent and necessary reform.
If you have connections, insights, or advocacy experience that could help move this mission forward, I would truly value your input.
Lastly, I urge you to get involved:
📣 Contact your U.S. Representatives and Senators to express support for modernizing nurse assistant training and certification.
🖊️ Sign and share our petition: at Change.org. Your comments and even a small donation can help increase its reach and impact.
Together, we have the power to modernize the outdated OBRA 1987 law, eliminate decades-old barriers, and take bold steps toward solving the CNA workforce shortage!
