In my January 2024 newsletter, I ventured into controversial territory by suggesting the repeal of OBRA. Despite not knowing how this suggestion would be received, I believed that many of my peers in nurse aide training might share my critical view of the legislation. To my delight and affirmation, I received a unanimous and enthusiastic, "Yes, let's do it!" from colleagues nationwide. This unanimous agreement highlights the strong drive for change existing within our community.
While I could devote much time to discussing OBRA's numerous shortcomings in nurse aide training, I find it more constructive to shift our attention towards crafting solutions. Changing federal law represents a colossal challenge, yet I am a proponent that even the longest journeys begin with single steps. With this philosophy in mind, join me in taking a first step toward reform by signing the online petition, "REPEAL OBRA, Nurse Aide Training" on change.org.
In my March newsletter, I'll outline our next steps forward. Together, let's undertake this important venture, striving for an improved future in nurse aide training and tackling the pressing scarcity of CNAs with groundbreaking reforms. Stay tuned for updates.
